Tea Stands for Tuesday - 8/22/17

Every Tuesday Elizabeth hosts "Tea Stands for Tuesday".  You can post about most anything as long as it is somehow related to a drink. Be sure to check it out.

This week I'm going to show you some thrift store decorating.  The River House is a second home that is used by our whole family.  It replaced a home we lost in a fire nearly 2 years ago.  Since I was decorating "from scratch" so to speak I decided to do it in a colorful style with hand made contents or things from thrift stores when possible.

Thrift store shopping can be weeks of nothing and then suddenly several finds at once.  Yesterday I showed you a coat hook, today there are some kitchen things.

thrift store - 99 cents

I found this sign.  I was originally going to use it as a base to paint my own sign.  When I got it home I played around with it and decided to use it as is in the kitchen.

It fit perfectly under a kitchen cabinet.  The bowl are thrift store finds as well - 49 and 69 cents.  I'm drinking water from a glass that came from the Dollar Store.  These things are quite inexpensive but somehow make me very happy.

Do you shop thrift stores?

  1. I am a bargain shopper and I do love furniture shopping in thrift stores or other second hand stores. I didn't know you lost your home in a fire though. Sorry to hear that as I always think it must be terrible to go through that. But it is fun to scour the stores and then make a find. The thrill of the hunt I guess. Happy T day. Hugs-Erika

  2. Wonderful additions to your kitchen. I love thrift shopping and hunting for bargains but now we are at a time in our lives where we are trying to clean out and downsize so if we go it's just to browse and enjoy without purchasing. Happy T day!

  8. I'm actually glad you kept the sign because I think it would have been a shame to paint over it. It already has that aged patina only age can give old wood. It's a wonderful piece and a great way to give the piece new life.

I really enjoyed seeing your colorful thrift store bowls and your dollar shop glass. Unfortunately, all the thrift store in my neighborhood have gone away, and I have to drive clear across town if I want to have a look that might or might not end in a worthwhile trip.

Thanks for sharing these beauties with us, along with the glass, for T this Tuesday.

  9. That's a terrific sign, Darla. I'm glad you decided to leave it as is. Little by little is a good way to decorate IMO. You can live with new pieces for a while before proceeding. I do most of my bargain shopping online, so I'm especially impressed by things people find by haunting thrift shops and flea markets.

  11. Thrift stores are a delight, and you're right that it seems to be feast or famine. I find nothing one day and then much too much another. I like the bowls. I think popcorn would go great in them :)

    Happy T Tuesday

  16. Love the popcorn sign!
I don;t do a lot of thrift shopping (or any other kind of shopping) because I am trying not to bring more stuff into my home. But I like to see what others find.

  17. I do love to visit what we call charity shops, which I think are the English equivalent to thrift stores! I also like bargain shops such as Poundland although I try not to spend too much these days as we have all we need! (saving it for craft supplies..wink!) The sign does look brilliants it is! Very belated Happy T Day! Chrisx
